Be Pet Smart is a free, fun, and interactive learning experience for children aged 3 to 12 years.

Its mission is to educate children on dog safety and responsible pet ownership. The program is available to all Logan education facilities, including community groups.

The program "Be Pet Smart" teaches participants how to: 

1. safely interact with strange dogs 

2. behave if approached by a strange dog 

3. identify and read cat and dog body language 

4. look after their pets. 

We are committed to educating our community about: 

1. reducing the number of dog attacks, particularly on children 

2. responsible pet ownership 

3. our animal keeping local laws 

4. the impact of pets on the environment 

5. the difference between different types of working dogs and a pet. 

Be Pet Smart has strong links with the Australian Curriculum ACARA. Copies of the curriculum connections are available on request. The program acknowledges the importance of education between the home and school. 

Each participant will receive: 

1. Be Pet Smart Certificate 

2. Activity Book.

A live education animal may be available for ages 4 and over (subject to facility assessment and animal availability).

If your child is not booked in for this day, your parental supervision is required.

• Please arrive at least 5 minutes before the assigned session. Late arrival will mean that children will lose contact time.
• You may drop your child in their respective room & guardian can proceed to the parent's room while waiting for the session to finish.
• Please don't forget to collect your child after the session time.
• If your child has an allergy to cats & dogs, please inform the staff & don't forget to indicate it on the form.
